Balgal Cultural Tours was started by Aimee Trust, a local Gija lady who is passionate about fishing in this beautiful part of the country where she lives.
Aimee and her team of experienced local tour guides invite you to join them on a unique half or one-day East Kimberley tagalong cultural fishing experience.
You will learn about Country, culture, language, history, bush foods and the diversity of native wildlife.
Enjoy the peace and quiet and immerse yourself in nature while you try your hand at catching that elusive Barra.
You will receive traditional fishing demonstrations, learn how to throw a cast net and spin a handline to land it just where you want it.
There will also be an opportunity to cook your catch on a campfire near the river.
At the end of the day all are welcome to relax around a campfire at Wuggubun Campground, have a yarn and enjoy some storytelling.
Cultural Fishing Tour details:
Tours operate all year round and run every day of the week.
There are four main fishing tour locations within 60kms of Wuggubun Campground, and each is affected differently by the tides. Your local guides will assess the tides and select the best tour option for the day, to ensure your experience is unforgettable.
If you are not staying at Wuggubun Campground, a meeting location closer to the fishing site can be arranged.
Half Day Tagalong

Each day, the best fishing location is selected based on tides and conditions, ensuring an authentic and rewarding experience.
What to Expect:
Guided Fishing Experience: Learn how to throw a cast net and spin a handline from knowledgeable Aboriginal guides.
Cultural Knowledge: Hear stories of Country, language, bush foods, and medicine plants throughout the journey.
Tag-Along Format: Drive your own 4WD vehicle and follow expert guides to remote fishing spots.
Catch & Cook: If you land a fish, your guide will prepare it for you to enjoy at home or around the campfire at Wuggubun Campground.
Campfire Yarns: Join the team at the Wuggubun fire pit from 5:30 PM for storytelling, bush tucker tastings, and a relaxed cultural exchange.

Full Day Tour: 8 hours | Departs 7:30 AM | $450 per vehicle (up to 2 adults), $50 per additional adult, children under 18 free.
Half Day Tour: 5 hours | Departs 7:30 AM | $300 per vehicle (up to 2 adults), $50 per additional adult, children under 18 free.
Location: Tours depart from Wuggubun Community Campground, approximately 55 km southwest of Kununurra. Alternative meeting points can be arranged if you're not staying at the campground.
What to Bring: Drinks, lunch, snacks, sunscreen, insect repellent, camp chair, and comfortable outdoor clothing.
Provided: Fishing gear (or bring your own), fruit, water, and a warm welcome to Country.
