Meaning "little bird" in Noongar language, Jeert Mia is a proudly Aboriginal-owned business based in Katanning and led by Noongar artist, cultural consultant and bushfood practitioner Wendy Hayward.
Drawing on a lifetime of cultural knowledge and experience on Country, Wendy combines art and native foods to create authentic cultural experiences. From bushfood catering and cultural consultancy to community events and creative collaborations, Jeert Mia celebrates the ancient connection between Noongar people, food and Country.
A passionate advocate for traditional foods, Wendy incorporates native ingredients such as quandong, a highly nutritious bush fruit that has sustained Aboriginal communities for generations. Her work is inspired by childhood memories of gathering bush foods with family and sharing the knowledge, stories and flavours of Noongar culture with visitors and locals alike.
Today, Jeert Mia works in partnership with the Katanning Aboriginal Corporation, continuing to support cultural preservation, community connection and Aboriginal enterprise in Western Australia's Great Southern region.
