Ilkurlka Roadhouse was built in 2003 as an initiative of the Spinifex People. Although it provides a valuable service to travellers on the Anne Beadell Highway, its main purpose is to serve the communities to the north and south during times of Aboriginal business and travel. The roadhouse provides a vital service to both east-west and north-south travellers and is proudly owned and operated by the Spinifex people. It is located in a very remote and isolated area and faces many challenges as a result.

Structures at Ilkurlka have all been architecturally designed, ergonomically and functionally. This includes the roadhouse, house, arts studio, logistics shed and amenity structures.

Ilkurlka is entirely solar powered with a generator back-up if needed. This also includes our bore which supplies good potable water to supplement rainwater collected in tanks around the roadhouse.

Ilkurlka campsite is a peaceful retreat with a hot shower, toilet and covered barbeque area. Firewood is freely provided.
