Western Australian Tourism Awards; new office and exciting upcoming key initiatives.
Western Australia Indigenous Tourism Operators Council (WAITOC) Chairman, Doc Reynolds, is pleased to announce that, at the recent Perth Airport Western Australian Tourism Awards, WAITOC was bronze medalist in the Specialist Tourism Awards sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and was runner-up in the Qantas Award for Excellence in Sustainable Tourism.
In addition, WAITOC member, Aboriginal business Koomal Dreaming won the Indigenous Tourism Gold Award. Winning silver in the category was WAITOC member Uptuyu Aboriginal Adventures. Of the Award, Koomal Dreaming owner, Josh Whiteland said “This is a great reward for all the hard work and vision that Koomal Dreaming has built on, always with WAITOC’s support”.
New WAITOC CEO, Simon Haigh said that “Given WAITOC’s upcoming plans for Aboriginal tourism product development, capacity building and training activity throughout WA, including in the Perth and South-West region, Josh’s success will provide a role model for the development of Aboriginal tourism in the South-West of WA”.
Simon Haigh added that with WAITOC moving into its first permanent offices in the Perth CBD later this month, and also announcing new corporate partner Chinese Zhong Hua Satellite TV company and engaging the support of Global law firm K&L Gates: “I am confident that WAITOC's leadership role in Aboriginal tourism and associated economic development will continue to increase not only in here in Western Australia, but Australia and Internationally".
WAITOC will be announcing some exciting new key initiatives over the coming months, including recently confirmed Commonwealth funding for the Perth and South-West Product development initiative.
