Koomal Dreaming Cultural Experiences was announced as the winner of two categories at the 2014 South West Small Business Awards in June 2014.  Koomal Dreaming was awarded both the Tourism Business Award and the Aboriginal Business Award.

Owner of Koomal Dreaming and current Board member of WAITOC, Josh Whitland said “we are very pleased to be recognised with these awards, we have put a lot of effort into developing a highly professional business model and now we are really starting to gain momentum”.

“Winning the Aboriginal business award made us very proud, and we are especially honoured to also be recognised amonst the other outstanding tourism businesses in this world class region for innovation in tourism delivery, community spirit and youth leadership”, said Josh.

Koomal Dreaming is an Aboriginal owned and operated business offering cultural experiences throughout the Cape to Cape region. Visitors have the opportunity to experience life through the eyes of the traditional owners, taste native foods, learn about bush medicine and the animals, plants and Dreaming spirits that have enriched the lives of Wardandi and Bibbulman people since time began.

Koomal Dreaming’s new ‘Aboriginal Food, Cave & Didge Tour’ has just been launched to meet the high levels of demand for food based tourism experiences, and it is already receiving great interest from the international tourism market and in particular Asian TV cooking shows.

Through his various roles in tourism and working with international chefs Josh is building a strong public profile as an ambassador for food, foraging and Aboriginal tourism in the South West. Koomal Dreaming won Gold in the WA Tourism Awards 2013 and Bronze at the National Tourism Awards 2013.
