Accreditation

The WAITOC accreditation scheme, was developed in conjunction with Tourism Council of Western Australia and the Australian Tourism Accreditation Association, which is effectively a "bolt on" to the National Tourism Accreditation Program (NTAP). To gain the authentic Indigenous Tourism Business Accreditation logo, endorsed by WAITOC, the enterprise must demonstrate that the business provides an authentic Indigenous experience.

Businesses wishing to be recognised as providing an authentic Indigenous experience will need to meet the requirements of the Tourism Council of Western Australia's program, and the WAITOC sector specific component criteria, which are -

  • The product has to be delivered by an Indigenous person.
  • The product being delivered has to be culturally sensitive and appropriate.
  • It must be pertinent to the operator's own cultural heritage or the operator should have permission to operate and use the region's cultural information from the relevant traditional owners.
